Wow, life can be so busy, especially with two energetic little boys in the house, and two home businesses. But although busy, and crazy at times, life is good and I’m very blessed.
My husband and I have been giving his studio a makeover recently… so I’ve been engrossed in another passion of mine… interiors… but that’s a whole different blog!
Easter is nearly here and I’ve been researching and testing some recipes specific to this time of year. Hot Cross Buns… that I’m still yet to perfect, Hot Cross Cookies that are a fav of mine, and a few chocolate treats as well.
As my children get older I find myself starting to look at the traditions we do as a family much more… thinking about what I had growing up, and what I want to create with my children as they grow older. It’s lots of fun and sometimes a little nerving deciding what is important to my family and how I can instil values and traditions to the next generation. I do find that a lot of things we’re starting to do in our house revolve around food… but some of my best childhood memories are based around food.
I wonder what memories everyone has from growing up?
My Grandmother used to make these wonderful Gingerbread Houses, I remember she made one once that was kept for 6mths+ in a glass cabinet in her house and was NEVER eaten. I remember being disappointed that each time we were there we could only look and not touch it. But now as a Mum, and a baker, I can appreciate how much effort goes into something like that and how hard it is to see it consumed by the masses. (That’s why I at least make 2 houses, one for the beauty – and perhaps eating, and one for DESTROYING) : )
I’ve been studying Patisserie at TAFE now for nearly 2 months and I’m still really enjoying it. Sporting my first ‘proper burn’ on my thumb from a temperamental oven, I’m really starting to ‘settle-in’ at the kitchens. In the beginning it was a struggle to absorb the information (I blame baby brain), but now it seems to have settled in and I’m finding that I’m able to learn, retain and recall information much easier now. Phew!
There has been such a resurgence of markets recently and I’m totally loving it. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to spend a whole weekend just perusing the markets… just lovely. I’ve even been considering starting up a stall selling homebaked goodies… but it’s just prelim stages at the moment… I’m still ‘cooking the books’ on it.
Well tomorrow is the beginning of a LONG WEEKEND here for Easter. So that means LOTS of quality family time, probably some gardening, and definitely some baking! Then it will be another busy week in the lead up to my baby’s 1st Birthday! AHHH, where did that time go?! And then I’ve got a cake to do for a wedding photo shoot (which I’m TOTALLY looking forward to).
So who knows when another update or blog post might happen. But if I find my camera charger in the meantime I may perhaps get some photos of all these occasions to share with ‘blogland’ later.
